ENTRY through unsecured uPVC doors have accounted for a quarter of all the burglaries in Bexley in just two weeks.

Bexley police say residents gave easy access to thieves in 11 of 43 house burglaries which took place between May 9 and May 23.

Burglary squad detective Sergeant Shelley Barrett warned: “Burglars can easily “pop” uPVC doors that haven’t been locked with a key.

“It is a fast, easy and almost silent way of getting into people’s homes.”

She added: “If your house is fitted with uPVC doors make sure that you always lock the door with a key.

“Simply closing the door and pushing the handle up will not prevent someone entering.”

People should also remove the key from the lock and keep it somewhere safe and out of sight.
