RESIDENTS and businesses in one of Bexley’s busiest roads are backing a novel idea from one of their neighbourhood bobbies.
Local people flagged up concerns about speeding traffic in Blackfen Road, Blackfen, to their Blackfen and Lamorbey ward police officers and asked them to it one of their priorities.
And PC Howard Newcombe found a novel way of doing it.
He designed a sticker for residents and businesses to put on the side of their wheelie bins, standing in prominent places all along the 1.25 mile length of the road.
Paid for by local estate agents GPS, the sticker displays the 30mph speed limit, and tells drivers of the 4.8m vehicles which use the road annually, It’s the Limit, Not the Target.
Speed enforcement has also seen 15 fixed penalty notices issued for speeding, one for no insurance, two vehicles seized for having no insurance and one driver arrested for taking a car.
