A FIREFIGHTER has been presented with a medal for his 20 years of service.
Kenneth Bignold, aged 45, is the longest serving firefighter at Lewisham fire station.
He is also part of the urban search and rescue team, which specialises in the rescue of casualties trapped in confined spaces.
Mr Bignold, of Crofton Avenue, Bexley, said: “I love being able to help people and it’s nice to get some respect for what I do from members of the public.
“I enjoy working in Lewisham. It’s a diverse area and there’s always plenty going on”.
The London Fire Brigade’s commissioner, Ron Dobson, presented him with the medal.
Mr Bignold, who has one daughter, worked as a builder before deciding to become a firefighter in 1989.
