THE Territorial Army unit granted the Freedom of the Borough earlier this year, has been presented with the scroll which marks the honour.
Major Andrew Church, commanding officer of 265 (Kent and County of London Yeomanry) Support Squadron (Sharpshooters), received the scroll on behalf of his unit from outgoing mayor, Bernard Clewes, at the annual civic reception.
It is only the third recipient of the honour in Bexley’s 44-year history as a London borough.
Sir Edward Heath and 17th Depot Regiment Royal Artillery, which has now moved to Kent were the other two.
The unit is part of the TA’s 71 Signal Regiment which is based in Watling Street, Bexleyheath.
It now has the right to march through the streets of the borough on all ceremonial occasions “with colours flying, bands playing and drums beating”.
