It’s the time of year we’ve all been waiting for - holiday time! It’s time to bask in the sunshine for a week or two in a foreign land, absorbing the rays and forget about the world.
But the UV rays from the sun can be damaging to your hair as well as your skin. To help you keep your locks in tip-top condition Jed Hamill from Graham Webb International is here with his top tips for holiday hair.
1. Habits tend to change when you’re on holiday and you will probably find that you wash your hair more frequently, so review the products you use.
Ensure they are designed for frequent washing.
Clynol’s new Care sun range is perfect to take away with you as not only is it designed for frequent use, it protects as it cares.
2. Damage limitation is a must with coloured hair, so ensure you have styling and conditioning products that have sunscreens to protect the hair from the punishing UV rays.
3. Some clients say that they love the sunkissed look that is a result of exposure to the sun, and don’t want to use sun blockers on their hair.
My advice: Hair will still lighten through the sunscreen products but, more importantly, the products will prevent the hair from looking like straw.
4. Summer re-growth will be noticeable, whatever your hair colour. Ends of the hair will be lighter, while the roots will be darker.
Combat this by having a mixture of highlights and lowlights to blend the colour throughout the length.
5. With the popularity of straightening irons there is a danger of frazzling hair, particularly as hair is more sensitive during the summer.
Make sure you use a thermal protector on the hair before styling with heated appliances.
6. Summer activities, such as swimming and other outdoor sports, can take their toll on the ends of hair, so make sure you keep hair regularly trimmed to ensure it remains in tip-top condition.
