A MOTHER whose 11-year-old son died after collapsing at school says thieves who stole flowers after his funeral “are scum”.
Nathan Logue, a pupil at Eltham Green School in Middle Park Avenue, Eltham, suffered from an undetected congenital heart defect and died suddenly on April 22.
The year seven student’s funeral was held on May 25 at Eltham Crematorium in Crown Woods Way, Eltham, but when his family went back the next day flowers were missing from his memorial stand.
His mum Sally Keen, of Pett Street, Woolwich, said: “At least three bouquets have been taken.
“It’s bad enough they have taken the flowers but they have taken the cards as well.”
The 39-year-old added: “I’m still numb so I just don’t feel anything at all. I just don’t understand why someone would take them.
“I have no words to say to the people who have done this. If someone can do that sort of thing they have no conscience. They are scum.”
More than 1,000 people have paid tribute to the youngster in two facebook groups called RIP Nathan Logue and RIP Nathan.
Miss Keen, who also has two daughters, said: “Nathan was a friendly child and got on with everyone.
“He was a happy boy. He was nice, polite and quiet. He was a perfect child.”
She added: “ I want those people to see the picture of my son so they know who they have stolen from.”
The theft has been reported to the Met police and the crematorium.
A spokesman for Greenwich Council, which runs the crematorium, said: “We have extended our sincere apologies to the family and have contacted the police who have agreed to our request for extra patrols to be carried out in the crematorium by the Eltham South Safer Neighbourhood Team.
“Thankfully, incidents like this are extremely rare and staff at Eltham Crematorium will remain vigilant to ensure family and friends can mourn their loved ones in a safe and peaceful environment."
