TWO Bexley Explorer Scouts were among several chosen by the Scout Association to take part in the State Opening of Parliament on Tuesday (May 25).
Lewis Baird, 17, a pupil at Bexleyheath School and Ben Smith from Tomahawk Explorer Unit in Belvedere, were helping with the arrival of ambassadors and VIPs to the ceremony, at the Peers’ Entrance to the Palace of Westminster.
The Scouts were on hand again after the ceremony to guide guests to the post-event receptions.
Lewis, from Greenhithe has been a member of 16th Erith Scout group for 10 years.
Ben enjoys playing in many bands and orchestras at school and liked listening to the Coldstream Guards playing before and after the Queen's arrival and departure from the Palace of Westminster.
He said: "I was surprised by their choice of music.
"I didn't expect them to play the Dr Who theme or a John Williams medley, including the Imperial March from Star Wars."
All the Explorers received a copy of the Queen's speech as a souvenir of their experience.
