YOUNGSTERS are being urged to send a text message to Crimestoppers if they know somebody who is carrying a knife in their school.
People can pass on information by anonymously texting 88551 and should include the name or nickname of the person with the knife, the school, their school year and the post code or area.
The scheme is being rolled out nationwide following a successful pilot in London from August 2008 to April last year.
Police say the amount of useful information relating to knife crime trebled as a result.
Detective Inspector Jane Corrigan, from Bromley CID, said: “We’re delivering this to schools and colleges throughout the borough.”
To report other crimes people are asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
