A CONSULTATION has been launched on merging a primary school with an academy.
Lewisham Council is proposing that Merlin Primary in Ballamore Road, Downham, should become part of Haberdashers’ Aske’s Knights Academy, Launcelot Road.
The plan would see the schools forming an all age academy and Merlin governors have voted to go ahead with the proposal.
Lewisham Council claims admissions criteria will not change and the move would turn around the Merlin’s poor academic performance.
But the Lewisham National Union of Teachers branch says it is against the scheme which would see teachers employed by the academy rather than the council.
The consultation finishes on July 2.
