A PUBLIC meeting on the expansion of London City Airport has been deferred while further background work is carried out.

The London Assembly Environment Committee had intended to hold its meeting on June 10 but it has now been delayed to the autumn.

In March, the committee launched an inquiry into the environmental controls around the expansion of the airport, which could see flights increase from 91,000 to 120,000 annually.

The expansion would increase the use of flightpaths over areas like Thamesmead.

A deferral will allow the committee to gather more information, make a site visit and will also discover the outcome of a judicial review on Newham Council’s decision to approve the plans.
