Three pensioners escaped with their dog as their house went up in flames in New Ash Green this morning (May 26).

The blaze tore through the ground floor of the home in The Mead at around midnight and then spread through the first floor.

Six fire engines were called to the scene and crews battled for around five hours to put out the flames.

A Kent Fire Brigade spokesman says the people in the house were all around 60 years old.

The cause of the fire is now under investigation.
