HURSTMERE School’s Year 7 football team has enjoyed plenty of success this year.

Several trials were held in September to assemble a squad and the chosen boys have gone on to win the North Kent Cup and the Kent Cup.

They defeated Erith School 5-1 to secure the North Kent trophy and Howard School 3-2 in an exciting Kent Cup final at Ebbsfleet United’s Stonebridge Road ground.

An excellent team spirit, combined with a very talented group of players, has been the key to Hurstmere’s success, with all the boys contributing during the campaign.

The season’s only defeat came at Gunnersbury Catholic College in the sixth round of the English Schools Cup, with the boys being comfortably beaten in a very physical game.

This was still a good achievement to reach the last 64 of a competition which started off with 700 teams.

A special mention must go to Freddie Cray for his excellent leadership both on and of the field, which has been a big help to the team manager Mr Ball.

Having remained unbeaten in Kent this season, plans are already afoot for next season’s campaign.
