A DOG has been rescued from a pit.
Firefighters were called out at 9.50 last night (May 23) to rescue the large Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who got stranded in the 20 ft deep chalk pit between London Road and St James’ Lane.
A couple had been walking the dog on Stone Recreation Ground before he bolted through a fence and fell into the pit.
They searched for the dog for some time before calling the Fire and Rescue service to retrieve their pet.
