BMX riders are celebrating after a council awarded them cash for a temporary racing track.
Dennis Thompson, aged 38, successfully applied for funding for a simulated BMX racing track at the Bike and Kite Festival, which is being held on Blackheath on June 12 and 13.
Youngsters will enjoy two days of free sessions where they can test their riding skills and experience a trap gate start.
The cash was awarded from the Lewisham Council Mayor’s Fund, which provides £50,000 to each local assembly over two years for community projects.
Mr Thompson, of Bromley Road, Sydenham, received £4,000 from the Blackheath assembly for the cost of the bikes and start gate.
Anyone who lives, works or studies in Blackheath can attend assembly meetings to discuss issues in the area.
