A TRACKSIDE fire was beaten out by firefighters in St Mary Cray last night (May 20).
The location of the blaze at the edge of Hockenden Wood meant the crews from Swanley and Orpington had to get there on foot so could not use the hoses from their fire engines.
Instead they used ‘beaters’, which are bits of old hose fixed to sticks to beat the fire, and backpacks full of water.
The firefighters from Swanley and Orpington were at the scene for around two hours from 10.30pm yesterday.
It is thought a spark from the train tracks might have started the fire.
