A PARADE of neighbourhood shops is gearing up for one of its biggest events of the year.
The Oval in Sidcup, which can boast it caters for most people’s everyday needs and more besides, holds its annual fete on June 5.
Organised by the parade’s traders’ association, the annual event has raised thousands of pounds for local charities, including Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice, as well as local schools and some individuals.
The event is held on the green opposite the shops and attracts the neighbourhood police and community groups to take part, offering stalls, sideshows and entertainment.
The traders’ association also plays an important part in the community and has won prizes in the Bexley and London in Bloom competitions and Bexley Environmental Challenge.
