VOLUNTEERS are needed to help clean a river of weeds and litter as part of an annual event.
People are being invited to take part in the Three Rivers Cleanup, which begins with Lewisham’s River Quaggy.
It will take place from 2pm until 4.30pm on June 6 and June 13 to remove Himalayan balsam weed and litter from the river.
Himalayan balsam is a weed which spreads quickly, clogging up the water where it grows, and requires specialised methods to remove it.
The project is a collaboration between Lewisham Council and environmental groups in the area, including Thames21 and the Quaggy Waterways Action Group.
The River Ravensbourne and River Pool will also receive a clean-up next month (June).
