OCCUPANTS of a dark coloured car could be key witnesses to a fatal crash in Catford, police say.

Daniel Abbott was killed after being hit by a car in Rushey Green in the early hours of Saturday morning (May 15).

The 34-year-old pedestrian, from the Lewisham area, was taken to Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, where he was pronounced dead at 4.45am.

At this stage in their investigation police believe two vehicles were driving, separately, at speed in Rushey Green.

Officers have traced a silver Ford Ka which did not stop at the scene of the incident but was found shortly afterwards in nearby Holbeach Road.

Police want to trace the other vehicle they believe was in the area at the time of the incident.

It is thought to be a dark coloured BMW or VW Beetle.

Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Gordon Wallace said: "I am appealing for the driver and any passengers who were travelling in this car in Rushey Green at the time of the incident to contact police.

“I believe these people could hold vital information that could help this investigation.

"At this stage we do not believe this car was involved in the collision but the occupants may have witnessed what happened."

Anyone with information is asked to call the witness appeal line on 020 8285 1574.

A man and a woman, both aged 21, were arrested in connection with the crash. They have been bailed to return to a south London police station in July.
