CLEANING up a town centre is a sticky business for one council as it removes almost a quarter of a million pieces of chewing gum.
Gravesham Council is in the middle of a massive clean up of Gravesend town centre and its Gum Clear team is getting rid of around 240,000 pieces of chewing gum.
This is part of the council’s Family Friendly Gravesham campaign, which aims to improve the appearance of the town to attract families there during the day and evening.
Council leader Councillor Mike Snelling said: “We are dedicated to making our streets better, cleaner and more inviting.
“Families are the key and attracting more of them into a pleasant shopping, dining and a place of choice to spend leisure time is very important.”
