If we were in a pub talking about football and I told you I supported Cray Wanderers’, would you know who they were? No? Well now you have a golden opportunity to put that right.
As part of their 150th Anniversary, Cray Wanderers Football Club is holding an exhibition at the Bromley Museum in Orpington. Running until 26th June, the exhibits depict the clubs history and include memorabilia, photographs, programmes and first hand testimonies.
Also on show will be the new ‘1860 retro’ football kit; chocolate coloured with yellow trims and vertical lines, it is a tribute to the kit the club wore when they were first formed. The players will be wearing this replica kit throughout the Ryman Premier League’s 2010/11 season.
Jerry Dowling who helped organise the exhibition said, “It has taken a lot of hard work to get the exhibition up and running. But the enthusiastic feedback from visitors since it opened has made it all worthwhile.”
The museum is located next door to the library in Church Hill, close to Orpington High Street. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sundays and Bank Holidays 1pm to 5pm. But best of all the admission is FREE.
And if you are impressed by the exhibition why not visit the Cray Wanderers display in the Croft Team Room at 263, High Street, St. Mary Cray. It is situated just a goal-kick away from the Fordcroft and Grassmeade grounds where the Wanderers played before and after the last war.
So in case we meet in a pub and start talking about football, get yourself down to the exhibition. And when I mention Cray Wanderers, you will know who they are and why I think they are the greatest team in the land!
