A BEXLEY student has been shortlisted for a reporting competition organised by Amnesty International UK.
Sophia Donnelly, 13, a pupil at Townley Grammar School in Townley Road, Bexleyheath, is in the running for the first Young Human Rights Reporter of the Year award, organised by the human rights organisation, in conjunction with Learnnewsdesk, the education arm of The Guardian website.
Nearly 450 children from across the UK, aged between seven and 14, entered the competition.
Sophia wrote about consumerism and child labour.
Judge Emily Drabble, editor of Learnnewsdesk, said of Sophia’s entry: “Chains and chocolate. An emotional piece and a call to action; very nicely written with great pace.”
The winner will be announced on June 1.
