BEE-KEEPERS have opened their apiary to the public for a series of talks about caring for the insects and producing honey.
The Dartford branch of the Kent Bee-keepers Association held the first of its Summer Sessions at its apiary at the Tredegar Allotments, off King Edward Avenue, last Saturday (May 8).
New mayor of Dartford Councillor Pat Coleman was part of the crowd of more than 20 who attended, and he donned a cape and veil to inspect a hive. The sessions take place on the second Saturday of each month until October, and are a chance to learn about the different types of hives and how to draw off honey straight from the comb.
William Mundy, 89, who established the branch in 1937 and is now president, said: "We were delighted to see so many people who are interested in the productive hobby.”
