PENSIONERS living in a residential home are proving they are no slouches when it comes to getting their hands dirty.
The residents of Abbottsleigh Mews in Old farm Road East in Sidcup, are taking part in Bupa’s Community Crops campaign to persuade more people to grow their own fruit and veg.
Residents have been nurturing their seedlings indoors for weeks and , now the weather has improved, are starting to plant them out in the gardens.
Next week Abbottsleigh Mews and Sidcup Residential and Nursing Home in Hatherley Road, Sidcup, are inviting in volunteer gardeners to help residents.
So far 300 homes are taking part in the campaign, supported by schools, church groups, allotment holders and young people from the Prince's Trust.
