A MOTHER of twins has died from cancer two weeks after she won her appeal for NHS funding for the drug Sunitinib.
Nikki Phelps, of Wrangling Lane, Luddesdown, was initially refused funding for the pills by the primary care trust NHS West Kent in February.
It said the life prolonging drug had not been fully tested on her rare form of cancer Multiple Endocrine Neoplasis.
But Mrs Phelps, 37, won an appeal on April 28 and the trust agreed to pay for the pills and backdate the funding to February 1.
It is understood Mrs Phelps died yesterday morning (May 11) at Hammersmith Hospital with her husband Bill, 46, and other members of her family at her bedside.
