LABOUR has tightened its hold on Greenwich Council following last Thursday's elections.
The party gained four seats from the opposition, wiping out the Lib Dems only two councillors in the borough at Middle Park and Sutcliffe ward.
It also swiped two seats from the Tories in the Kidbrooke and Hornfair ward.
It leaves the Tories with just 11 council seats, compared to 40 for Labour.
Leader of Greenwich Labour Cllr Chris Roberts said he was “delighted” with the election results.
He said: “To gain further seats in what is demonstrably not the best year for the Labour Party is especially pleasing, as was the sheer size of the majorities in so many seats.
“The most satisfying aspect of all was to witness the people of Greenwich voting on the issues which were of concern to them.
“It is clear that whatever attempts were made to divert people’s attention to the peripheral or the personal were simply ignored by the voters.”
Leader of Greenwich Conservatives Councillor Spencer Drury said after the count: “It’s been a very disappointing night.”
