A FATHER whose son died after being run over, shot and stabbed in a gang turf war, has set up a foundation in his memory.

Antoine Ndjoli is launching the Johnson Memorial Foundation on May 22 to raise awareness of young people joining gangs and carrying knives and guns.

His 19-year-old son, Johnson, died on January 5 after being attacked on April 24 last year by brothers Dwight and Derrell Callender and members of the Shower Gang.

A football tournament for under 19’s and under 14’s will take place from noon until 4pm at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham to mark the launch of the foundation.

Youngsters from Deptford will be taking part as well as pupils from Crossway academy in Sprules Road, Brockley, and Bonus Pastor Catholic College in Winlaton Road, Bromley.

Mr Ndjoli, who has five other children, said: “Almost every single day there is a stabbing or someone is killed.

“The situation is getting out of hand in London. The community have to stand and fight. We can’t just leave this to the police. We have to stand against it.”

The 49-year-old, who has left Deptford’s Pepys estate where he lived due to fear of the other gang members, came to London in the 1980s as a refugee after fleeing violence in the Congo.

Dwight Callender, 23, of Mercator Road, Lewisham, and Derrell Callender, 20, of Leybridge Court, Eltham, were locked up for 35 years each for the attempted murder of the teenager and his friend Mohammed Turay.
