HEIDI ALEXANDER has swept to victory in Lewisham East with a majority of 6, 216.
The former deputy mayor of Lewisham won for the Labour party with the Lib Dem's Pete Pattison trailing in second with 11,750 votes.
Speaking after hearing the good news, Ms Alexander said: “The hard work for me starts here.
“With Bridget Prentice I have some very big shoes to fill and I will try my best to do just that.”
Jonathan Clamp came third for the Conservatives with 9,850 votes.
At the last general election, Labour's Bridget Prentice won Lewisham East with a majority of more than 6,000.
Turnout this time around was 63.6 per cent
