JOAN RUDDOCK says there is “no magic solution” to solve violent crime, in the wake of yet another New Cross murder.
Speaking from Sedgehill School where she awaits parliamentary results to be announced, the Lewisham-Deptford candidate said tackling crime was one of the “big challenges ahead”.
“The vast majority of people in that area are decent law-abiding people and don't want their young people injured in violence”, she said.
“If I am re-elected, and I take nothing for granted, I will tackle it head on.
“I will strive to get the police, the communities, the local authorities and youth facilities working in partnership.”
The Labour candidate added: “There is no quick fix, no magic solution, but with hard work it can be done.”
Nathan Allen, 21, was shot dead in Ludwick Mews, New Cross, on Monday.
