POLICE have identified a young man shot dead at the notorious Woodpecker Estate in New Cross as Nathan Allen.
The 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene in Ludwick Mews just after 9pm on Monday.
A post-mortem gave cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
More than 600 people have joined a Facebook page set up in tribute to Mr Allen, of Desmond Street, New Cross.
He was also known locally as Mace.
The incident is being investigated by Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community.
Detective Chief Inspector Gordon Allison said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have information in relation to this murder or who may have seen anything at the time.
“Trident is working closely with local borough police and the local community to ensure we follow every lead to identify the suspects in this crime.”
