BEE-KEEPERS are opening their apiary to the public for a series of talks about caring for the insects and producing honey.
The Dartford branch of the Kent Bee-keepers Association held the first of its Summer Sessions at its apiary at the Tredegar Allotments, off King Edward Avenue, on Saturday (May 8).
They will take place on the second Saturday of each month until October, and are a chance to learn about the different types of hives and how to draw off honey straight from the comb.
William Mundy, 89, who established the branch in 1937 and is now president, said: "Bees are fascinating creatures.
“Bee-keeping has to be one of the most productive hobbies because of the honey and the way you get to see a colony develop."
