THE campaign to bring a Crossrail station to Woolwich has reached the corridors of power.
A team seeking to get an extra stop on the proposed rail route, which will link south east and west London, took its case to the Houses of Parliament.
MPs and transport specialists met with campaigners including Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford and chairman of South London Business Sir Bob Scott.
The route, which is due to open in 2010, looks set to end at Abbey Wood but the campaigners believe there is scope for another station at Woolwich.
Greenwich Council is also backing the cause, claiming a new station could create around 2,300 new jobs.
The council's assistant transport director, Dave Jessup, said: "The transport and regeneration case for Woolwich has always been very strong."
Council bosses are now making final preparations to put their case to the Crossrail Select Committee.
