THE Greenwich Pensioners' Forum recently visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital to taste the quality of hospital food.
The pensioners went to the Medical Diagnostic Centre and toured one of the wards for older patients before sampling the day's menu for its patients.
The menu included Lancashire hotpot, diced chicken chasseur and macaroni and smoked haddock for main course and fruit of the forest sponge, apple pie and rice pudding for afters.
Ron White of the Pensioners' Forum said: "People often complain about the indifferent quality of hospital food. We welcomed the opportunity to go along and see for ourselves.
"The feedback from the forum has been favourable."
The hospital's dietician went through how those who can't feed themselves are taken care of and explained how a patient's nutritional needs are met if there is a health reason someone is unable to have the usual three meals a day.
Ron added: "Health is always on the agenda at the forum. This was a reassurance exercise and we need more of this sort of thing.
"The hospital has shown us in a practical way how it deals with problems."
