THE Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has devised an information pack detailing a number of alternative career paths in tennis to help hopefuls who want to pursue working within the sport.
Produced by LTA Coach Education, the guide divides tennis careers into different categories and maps out a number of routes employees can take by showing the range of possible promotions on offer. It states the skills and qualifications needed to reach a position of a certain level.
On-court careers include tour players for which you need to have international playing standard, national coaches which require a Performance Coaching Award (PCA), performance coaches which require Club Coach Awards (CCA) and coach education tutors which require a CCA or a PCA.
There are also a number of off-court careers detailed in the information pack such as a tennis centre manager, a sports psychologist and a physiotherapist.
An example of a career option is a tennis assistant moving onto becoming a full-time club coach. The next step could be to train for performance coaching, then national coaching and ultimately a director of performance.
