SIX builders are taking on the Football Association with their World Cup song.

The FA liked Young Stanley's song 4-4-2 and it made it into the top 10 of choices for the official England World Cup song but World at Your Feet by indie band Embrace was the eventual winner.

The members of Young Stanley are so confident about the song and their singing abilities they are still releasing the track and are ready to battle against the FA's official song.

Bricklayer Jay Cranston, 40, of Croydon Road, Coney Hall, said: "We were adamant we wanted to get it on our own and now we're moving along and it's getting exciting.

"I think we're going to be number one soon because it's going in the right direction.

"No-one knows what is going to happen but there could be some mileage in it."

A CD single cover has been designed, a video has been filmed and the band now has a promotions team trying to get them on television and on the radio.

The song was born out of desperation on a building site last summer when the men were talking about how England always do fairly well in major tournaments but never quite win.

The band got its name because Mr Cranston's 10-year-old son is called Stanley.

Before working on the song the men did not have any experience of the music industry.

An FA spokesman said: "We wish them all the best with it and wish them luck with the release."
