MYSTERY vandals are causing fury among residents by playing havoc with their water supplies.

Residents on the Gallions Housing Estate, Thamesmead, have been left without water for hours on several occasions in recent weeks, because yobs keep damaging water hydrants.

The vandals caused damage to hydrants on the estate on three successive nights, from March 16 to March 18.

After one incident, some residents were left without water for up to 48 hours.

The association which runs the estate has now called in police to catch the culprits, whose actions are leaving residents high and dry.

Lynn Madrid, of Binsey Walk, Thamesmead, says she was unable to have a shower, wash clothes or flush her toilet for almost two full days.

The mother-of-two said: "It is alright for these kids. They go home to use the toilet and can still pull the chain, but we can't.

"I would love to have 10 minutes in a room with these people. To be honest, I just feel like punching the hell out of them."

She added: "The parents of these kids should be evicted or at least made to pay for the damage they have caused."

Gallions Housing Association, which runs the estate, admits the vandalism has become a "serious problem".

Spokesman Joy Mckee said: "This is the first time we have ever experienced such a co-ordinated attack.

"It seems to have become the latest weekend activity for some people and we are concerned about it."

She added: "We've informed the police and I would encourage any residents with information to call them and bring it to their attention."

Police want anyone with information on those responsible for the vandalism to contact them.
