AN ARMY cadet unit has won a trophy for taking part in a 13-mile challenge and raising money for charity.
The ninth regiment South East London Army Cadet Force won the Cadet Challenge Cup and beat nine other units across the country.
Gulf War commander General Sir Peter de la Billiere, who is also former head of the SAS, presented the cadet team with the prize at the Army Cadet Force headquarters, Wat Tyler Road, Blackheath, on March 16.
They were praised for demonstrating high levels of commitment towards their challenge activities during last year, such as a 13-mile course taking in Shooters Hill, Eltham and Woolwich.
The cadets had also raised £1,400 for national charity, St Dunstan's, which offers support and rehabilitation to blind ex-servicemen and women.
St Dunstan's spokesman Graham Footer said: "Taking part in the challenge not only helps the cadets' personal development, but also inspires a real sense of citizenship."
