HISTORIANS can discover the hidden secrets of a canal used by barges in the 1800s at a talk by a waterways expert.
The history of the forgotten canal between Gravesend and Strood, last used in 1846, will be brought to life by Brian mcKnish, assistant chairman of Thames and Medway Canal Association.
With a series of slides and photographs, Mr McKnish will explain why the canal was an important shortcut and how the association plans to re-open the waterways.
He will be at the Rainbow Centre, Rose Street, Northfleet, at 2pm to talk to the Northfleet History Group, but non-members are also welcome.
Group member Ken McGoverin said: "We're looking forward to finding out about the canal. It was built to defend barges from the French."
Admission to the April 4 talk costs £1.
