NEW figures show Gravesend has topped the table for the most items recycled and the least rubbish produced.
The Audit Commission found Gravesham Council recycles more waste than any other authority in the county.
Figures also revealed Gravesham residents produce less household waste than others in Kent.
In total 20 per cent of household waste in the borough was recycled between 2004 and 2005 compared to 14 per cent in Dartford during the same period.
The council was also commended for providing value-for-money waste collection averaging 45p per household each week.
Portfolio member for environment, leisure and public space Councillor Lee Croxton said: "I am delighted our efforts in Gravesham have been recognised nationally."
