Raunchy comedy Dirty Dusting comes to the Orchard Theatre next week, starring Last Of The Summer Wine actress Juliette Kaplan. She chats to Paul Revel ...
Dirty Dusting is a comedy about three elderly office cleaners facing redundancy. Secretly they set up a phone sex service, the Telephone Belles. The cast includes Pat Mackie and former EastEnders star Andrew Lynford.
"It's absolutely hilarious," says Juliette Kaplan. "When I read the script I knew I had to do it. It's not Chekhov. It's a jolly good romp,"
Juliette has recently been filming a new series of Last Of The Summer Wine, which will start screening in March.
The show has been running since 1972. Juliette joined the cast in 1981.
"I'm the new girl," she laughs.
She has also recently completed a film, Are You Ready For Love? which is expected to premier at the Cannes Film Festival in April.
She says: "I got to play somebody rather glamorous. I was filming Summer Wine at the same time. I'd turn up and they'd say Why are you wearing long polished false nails?' "Then I'd go back to the film set and they'd want to know why all my expensive nails had gone."
Juliette's long career was interrupted by a 15-year break while she raised her children.
"I met this bloke and we got married. We had three children in three years until I found out what was causing it."
She adds: "Then, sadly, about 25 years ago my husband died. I went back to work."
Luckily she had not allowed her theatre skills to get rusty.
"I kept my hand in by getting very involved with amateur companies. I directed a lot of shows.
When not working Juliette is eager to get back to her home in Westgate land of the geriatric jet-set, she says.
She sees her grandchildren Alice, seven, and five-year-old Georgie as often as possible.
"I love them to pieces," she says.
"I think one should have grandchildren first, before the children. "The Almighty's got it the wrong way round," she laughs. "You can spoil them and then you can give them back."
Dirty Dusting, February 6-11, the Orchard, Home Gardens, Dartford, £13.50 - £20, 01322 220000.
