How is it possible there are 88 people with cautions or convictions for sex offences who have not been banned from our classrooms?

How many other discrepancies are there in a system which should be under the strictest scrutiny?

We have a duty to our children to make sure they are safe. If we can't guarantee this, what kind of country are we living in?

It's bad enough having to navigate children safely to and from school but to knowingly send our kids into schools with possible paedophiles is absolutely criminal.

To have seven different lists which hold data about unsuitable people is crazy.

Ruth Kelly admitted there were 32 individuals listed on the sex offenders' list who do not appear on the banned teachers' list List 99. No wonder people like Paul Reeve were able to slip through the net and teach PE for goodness sake. He was cautioned for accessing child porn!

And for one of Kelly's ministers to find looking at child porn a misdemeanour that warrants only "a grave warning" suggests the Government is woefully out of step with public opinion.

Kelly's "regret" for any "anxiety and concern" caused by the revelations that ministers have been clearing sex offenders to work in schools is a paltry offering.

Her job is safe is it? I think not. Blair is conspicuous by his absence. He has obviously been advised to distance himself from this issue as much as he can. And no wonder. It's a disgraceful situation. Ultimately the buck stops with Kelly and she should go. Get her out and fast. This is not an area for covering up.
