YOUNG FUNDRAISERS: A school has raised more than £1,000 for the new Demelza children's hospice, in Eltham. Kelsey Park Sports College, in Beckenham, raised the money through a variety of events including a bowling night. The hospice, in Sowerby Close, is expected to open in autumn 2007.
WELL PACKAGED: The University of Greenwich at Medway is launching Kent's first certificate in packaging to meet the needs of the county's manufacturers. The part-time course is being taught at the Natural Resources Institute at the university's Medway campus, Chatham Maritime, from February 22.
WINE FINES: Seventeen businesses were caught selling alcohol to a 14-year-old in an undercover operation by Greenwich Council and police. During November and December last year, 77 shops selling alcohol were visited. Twelve stores were fined.
