A POLITICIAN who believes Dartford Crossing's toll to be illegal is set to raise the issue in the European Parliament.
UKIP MEP Mike Nattrass wants to see the tolls scrapped because he claims lorries are charged too much during peak times under EU law.
Mr Nattrass, a member of the parliament's transport committee, will raise the issue this week at a meeting in Brussels with UK transport minister Alastair Darling and EU transport commissioner Jacques Barrot.
The meeting follows a two-hour protest at the crossing in December last year organised by UKIP.
Mr Nattrass said: "Motorists are treated as a cash cow by the Government."
A spokesman from toll operators Le Crossing said tolls ease congestion and reduce the impact on the environment.
