NORTH KENT EMBROIDERERS GUILD
What a good start our January meeting was to the New Year! The weather outside was sunny and bright, and in St Andrew's Centre, keen members of North Kent Embroiderers Guild were busy stitching plus having the occasional laugh!
It was a Hands On' afternoon where members Iris Williams and Jill Ediss shared their talents by teaching members, and visitors, how to do Italian Quilting and weaving. The Italian Quilting, otherwise known as Trapunto, made a card and the weaving group finished a mat. The Young Embroiders had made themselves a Scissor Keep during the morning.
As always, there was mention of forthcoming events which includes an exhibition of members work at Meopham Library between April 21 and May 19 entitled 'Centenary of Embroidery'. Do try to get along to see it as there will be several different aspects of embroidery including blackwork, gold work, and cross stitch.
Christmas was also mentioned - members were asked to make a Christmas Star to place on a Christmas Tree at the Christmas meeting on 16 December 2006. That is real forward thinking!!!
The February meeting will be held on Saturday 18 February when the spotlight will be on the members and they will be Showing and Telling' the meeting about works of embroidery they have done. This is always an excellent meeting to gather ideas for future pieces of work you wish to do, so why not come along to St Andrews Centre in Gravesend at 2pm and join us - you will be most welcome and you need not have any experience, just a love of embroidery! There is the usual charge of £3.
The Young Embroiderers are aged from eight to 13 and anyone is welcome, five to eight year olds are also welcome but need to be accompanied by an adult. They meet from 11am until 1pm and they will be continuing with their Stitch Samplers and learning to knit and crochet on Saturday, February 18.
