LONGFIELD HILL WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
The president was delighted to welcome two visitors to our January meeting and spoke of several members who were absent due to illness. They were wished a speedy recovery by us all.
During the discussion of business matters, members were told the posts to be filled by new members on the committee; entries were invited for a gardening quiz at Millbrook Garden Centre in March and it was announced that a coffee morning would be held at Mrs Hanrahan's home on January 26.
Following tea, Barbara Darvill gave an absorbing talk on enjoying wine, from what to look for on the label to recognising the age of a wine and appreciating its nose', colour and taste. She described the making of champagne and the correct way to open it. Her final message was to take more interest in the wine you buy and so increase one's enjoyment of it.
At our next meeting on February 9, Amanda Harris-Deans will talk about the House and Gardens at Higham Park near Canterbury.
We meet in the Scout Hall at 1.30pm to 4pm and warmly welcome visitors and new members.
