THE website greenmoves.co.uk has a nationwide listing of eco-friendly properties for sale.

The search facility allows users to select a region and house type which ranges from bungalows, flats and detached homes to off-plan plots.

Green Moves promotes homes with green qualities such as above average levels of insulation, wool insulation, straw bale walls and sustainable heating systems such as solar thermal hot water systems or photovoltaic panels on the roof for generating electricity. Properties include those constructed with natural building materials such as timber and organic paints and water saving devices such as rainwater harvesting for flushing the WC.

The properties on Green Moves may also benefit from greywater collection from sinks and bath for watering the garden, composting toilets, large amounts of glazing to allow lots of daylight, heat recovery systems for space heating, passive solar orientation, where the house benefits from a southerly orientation, gaining free light and heat.

This is normally allied to larger amounts of glazing facing south and smaller amounts to the north elevations.

Green Moves aims to stimulate the market growth of eco- and energy-efficient homes and raise the awareness of the benefits of eco and energy-efficient properties.

It is supported by two environmental charities, the Somerset Trust for Sustainable Development and the WWF One Million Sustainable Homes campaign.

Green Moves also reinvests income in tree planting to help offset carbon emissions from housing.
