YOUNG parents experiencing problems with their partner can benefit from a new service being offered in Lewisham.
The Mediation Service for Young Parents will be open to single or married parents in the borough, aged 25 or younger, who are having difficulties communicating with the father or mother of their child.
The service, funded by the charity Working With Men, aims to reduce conflict and help young families reach acceptable resolutions.
The process will involve an assessment of both parties to clarify and set down the issues to be discussed.
This will be followed by up to six, face-to-face mediation sessions.
It will be led by two mediation counsellors, who will use a calm and neutral approach towards achieving a written agreement for action.
Mediation counsellor Owen Thomas said: "As well as bringing them face to face in a neutral environment, we are aiming to support both the mother and father and help them stick to goals and agreed issues."
