EDUCATION campaigners are calling for a cabinet member to resign after they claim she "misled" the public.
New School Campaign member John Hamilton and Save Ladywell Pool chairman Max Calo are unhappy with comments made by member for children and young people Councillor Katy Donnelly.
At a cabinet meeting held on January 11 to discuss the £187m Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme, Cllr Donnelly defended the package of measures.
She said the investment "comes as a whole" and added: "If there are parts of this package people wish to object to they need to recognise this fact."
Mr Calo says Cllr Donnelly's comments imply BSF, which still must be approved by the Government's Partnership for Schools body, is a "done deal".
He added: "By sending this message out she is misleading people.
"She might be the cabinet member for education but she cannot be allowed to treat us like children."
Mr Calo and Mr Hamilton will present a petition demanding Cllr Donnely's resignation at tonight's full council meeting.
Cllr Donnelly, who is standing down after the May elections, said: "It is ridculous to claim I have misled the public or this is a done deal.
"If we don't present Partnership for Schools with a complete package we risk being put back 10 years.
"I don't think anyone would want to take that chance."
