THE new year got off to an energetic start for schoolchildren who joined in healthy activities.

The 222 youngsters at Keston CofE Primary School, Keston, enjoyed skipping and hockey.

They had visits from London Ambulance staff, the fire brigade and the life bus, driven by a health promotion and drug-prevention agency.

Pupils at the Lakes Road school were given stickers for healthy lunches and learned how their bodies work.

Headteacher Julia Evison: "These days children are quite unfit and we want to promote a healthy lifestyle with healthy habits they will take through their lives."
