A CAMPAIGN urging residents to recycle Christmas trees has been hailed a success after more than 1,000 were collected.
Gravesham Council urged residents to drop unwanted real Christmas trees at 11 sites across the borough from the end of December until January 10.
The number of trees collected has increased 70 per cent from last year.
The trees are currently being shredded and the recycled material will then be used on footpaths in the borough's public areas.
Portfolio member for environment, leisure and public space Councillor Lee Croxton said: "I would like to thank Gravesham residents for their efforts in recycling so many unwanted real Christmas trees."
