Is there a building in your area which you feel deserves national recognition for its appearance, function or eco-friendly qualities?

That property could be put on the map if you nominate your favourite building for a Green Apple Award for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage.

The organiser of the awards, The Green Organisation, is appealing for nominations of all descriptions residential homes, contemporary apartments, stately mansions, picturesque shops, historic buildings, conversions or monuments.

Organiser Roger Wolens said: "There are sectors for buildings and structures both ancient and modern even new-builds. The main requirement for eligibility is they make a positive contribution to their surroundings.

"We obviously want to reward those people who preserve and protect the older buildings which embody our architectural heritage but with so many new buildings going up we also want to encourage the people responsible to create something we can all be proud of."

Entries can be submitted by anyone involved with the building owners, councils, architects, conservation specialists, developers and construction partners.

Winners will be given free tickets to the prize-giving ceremony, to be held in London this spring, at which they will be presented with their awards. Entry forms can be downloaded from the Built Environment Awards section at thegreenorganisation.info or by calling 01604 810507. The deadline for nominations is January 31.
